Why I started to get results after cutting regularly cardio

TweetTweetFor fifteen years I went to doctors, nutritionists and fitness instructors that gave me bad advice, but all of them plus magazines that talked about diet and how to get a good shape used to say the same: eat diet and light stuff with few calories and do lots of cardio.

Every time I started that philosophy I failed. And I used to blame myself because I do not had enough will power.

Studies have been proving that people who used to do long cardio for fat burning, at some time hit a plateau. To keep burning fat they have two options: increase speed or timing (it can’t be done forever). People that didn’t increase any of those, were fatter than in the beginning of the study.

The body adapts really fast. Regularly doing repetitive aerobic exercise makes the body use less and less oxygen and energy to perform (burn less calories). There are better options to perform cardio exercise for fat loss: HIIT which stands for High Intensity Interval Training and an example will be running for 30 seconds (as intense as possible) and walk for 30 seconds, repeating for 30 minutes (there are tons of apps to count the seconds in the mobile).

I got really awesome results with strength training. It builds more muscle, the muscle to maintain itself burn much more calories than fat tissue, the more muscle I have, more calories my body burn just to maintain itself. It is always possible to improve lifting more weight as possible (without compromise the performance and correct posture).

Please, girls, don’t come with that non sense talk about we will look like man. We don’t have testosterone for that. The only side effect is a toned body.

I still do cardio. To warm up to my strength training and that will be the only time the treadmill will see me. I also do some classes that have cardio, but I aim the ones that have cardio in circuit with bodyweight exercises (more muscles).
